There are many things that can be done to stay healthy while you travel, but we have narrowed down our top 6 easiest tips that can be used no matter where you are going.

1. Boost your immune system

It is vital that you boost your system starting a couple days prior to your departure and throughout the extent of your trip. Traveling puts natural stressors on the body and the extra boost to your immune system will help ensure you are able to fight off as many free radicals as possible. I personally love making my own Elderberry syrup (I use this recipe), however many things can be purchased over the counter. Elderberry, Ginger, Vitamin C, probiotics are all great options for giving your system a boost.

2. Wash Hands

Need I say more – it is the number one best thing you can do to protect yourself from germs. Just wash your hands and often.

3. Drink Water

Filtered water is best if possible. Keeping yourself hydrated will not only keep you glowing but will keep your system in check. There are great travel filter devices on the market if you are concerned about the quality of the water. Use a reusable water bottle so you can carry it with you everywhere and prevent plastic water bottles from entering the landfills.

4. Get outside

Fresh air is good for your overall physical and mental wellbeing. Going outside for a walk, deep breathing, or stretching is a great way to clear out any feelings of illness. Also, connecting with the Earth at your destination will give you a sense of place and ground you to your new surroundings.

5. Sanitize the hard surfaces on the plane

This is my number one trick that I began when I started traveling with the little guy and I have not stopped. I think it has helped us ward off airplane germs. I carry a travel size spray bottle filled with rubbing alcohol. Spray down the tray table, arm rests, seat belts, window…anything hard around you. It is best to let it air dry, but if necessary, wipe it down with a tissue. Do this first thing when you enter your seat before you get comfortable.

6. Trust and Think and Know that all will be ok

In the end, if we think positive thoughts and know that we are healthy, then we will be. Do not stress about it, just be proactive and know you will be ok. If you do have health concerns or want to be protected in the event you do get sick, I always recommend travel insurance. It is a great comfort to know you have options in the event you get sick.
